My services range from basic proofreading to complex substantive editing and include everything in between. I work either on site in the Austin, Texas area or remotely. My work typically falls into one of the following three categories:
Substantive editing (also known as structural or content editing) is for early drafts of a document. It may involve extensive rewriting or line editing to ensure that the content, structure, and language of the document meet the author’s or publisher’s needs.
Copyediting is for documents that are mostly complete in terms of content and structure. Details like clarity, flow, grammar, punctuation, and style are addressed during the copyediting stage.
Proofreading is for documents that are ready for publication and just need one last check to ensure that they’re free of errors. Any lingering typos, grammar and punctuation errors, and formatting problems are corrected during proofreading.
Rates
Rates vary depending on the scope of the project, but here’s what I typically charge for each type of editing:
Proofreading: $30/hour
Copyediting: $35-40/hour
Substantive editing: $40-45/hour

Payment
I typically invoice weekly and accept payment via Venmo, Cash App, PayPal, direct deposit, or check. For ongoing contract work with companies or small businesses, I am happy to work with your existing payroll or invoicing system.
